Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
