Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
