Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
