Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can keep managing with player absences after disclosing that forward Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been absent for months due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return sooner, Arteta explained the player hit a snag when stepping up his recovery and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a squad that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This news presents a dilemma for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return from a muscle injury in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also in contention following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Remain

Additional concerns surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the weekend encounter. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on new players during the summer has placed the club in a far better place to navigate such setbacks.

Squad Depth Key to Premier League Pursuit

When asked if more options was helping their league challenge, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, as this campaign has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the situation with the backline,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we want to compete at the highest level. And the example of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star

Commenting on the setback highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the required step and now it appears like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his personal desire to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, in my view, I value highly for what he brings to the team, but his character, his personality. I see him suffer while sidelined.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back with the squad and playing because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
