It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
