This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
